Officials said that the man - whose name has not been released - was struck at approximately 2:50 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2 in Suffolk County near the Waverly Avenue crossing in Holtsville.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The fatal incident forced the cancelation of subsequent trains that were scheduled to travel through the area as police investigated.
It remains unclear why the man was on the track, but he was referred by officials as a “trespasser” on the tracks.
No further information has been released as MTA police investigate.
